I’ve been following Rebecca / RC on social media and PsychCentral. I’ve been on many narcissistic abuse forums but I never felt I quite fit in, my issues seemed a bit different, even though I’ve had to go no contact with my family. I’ve gotten a lot out of this book on scapegoat abuse and from RC’s social media sharings and her posts on PsychCentral. She’s helped me to understand what happened to me and now I have a better idea how to go about recovering. I hope therapists read this book also because there needs to be more education about how traumatic it can be to be the family scapegoat, so few people in mental health seem to really get it.

Wow. This is the first time I’ve ever felt this understood, and on such a soul level. I’m finally able to release the defeating accusations I’ve been given in my life, being dismissed as “dramatic” or convinced by sayings like, “I’m sure it’s not a big deal.” It IS a big deal. Family scapegoating is silent torture, and a trap. Finally I realize my experience really IS serious… and valid. The findings and teachings in RC Mandeville’s book have been the most liberating blessing I could have ever received in this lifetime. And I’m so lucky to have received this validation and freedom at a young age. I imagine most souls who are sadly living in this trap of the family scapegoat have to carry this lonely torture inside of them their entire lives, and are lucky if they are able to meet someone that tells them, “I hear you, I see you, I understand you completely, and you are not alone. We will turn your life around together.” I’m just so relieved. For the first time in my life I am finally feeling heard and understood, instead of demeaned and dismissed. This book has straightened out what were once tangled knots in my head, and defined the truth about what I was once so turmoiled over, unable to relay to anyone the torture I felt at home with my dad, and with my mother’s subsequent boyfriends. This has filled me with so much hope for my life, and empowered me to keep my head up and move onwards and upwards. Finally there is a name for my experience! Now I can give this book to my trusted loved ones so they can read and finally understand my life experience, and have the a-ha moments I was gifted with through this book. I see this book birthing so much compassion in this world, untangling knots page by page in the minds of the innocent truth tellers. A rollercoaster that reaches the end zone safety, and leaves you giggly because you made it out alive and well :). I am so looking forward to the upcoming books authored by RC. I have yet to find a book that nails it like this, she REALLY knows the depths of this incredibly important subject, corner to corner.
